Renwick's Heartstrings

This started as a b/w photograph of the inside of a large weaving installation at the Renwick Art Gallery in Washington, DC. It was a temporary installation and I was able to photograph from the bottom shooting up into the narrowing of the weaving. I added the heart at the end of the 'tunnel' and used reds, corals, and gold to give the artwork a bit of living biology character.

Something a little different - taken from my extensive library of photographs. This photo was taken in Tanzania and I love the juxtaposition of the young girls walking to school in their uniforms, while the older women in the background are selling their produce. In Tanzania women are committed to finding a way to pay for their children's education. I caught the shot from my motor vehicle when I was at a stoplight.

One bad jolt and goodbye to my camera. It made my traveling companions very nervous, but I got the shot I wanted to paint.

I have to admit I almost gave up on this piece after the first spiral because it was very difficult to convey transparency and the reflection of the glass image which I was trying to create. Now it is one of my favorites.

I started with a black and white photo of the blossom and saw the lines and flow of the blossom as a Jarabe Tapatio dancer. The flowing blue-green background behind the abstract dancer are the petals of the flowers, and the flower's pistil is the framework of the dancer.

About
CMBArtwrks is based out of Leonardtown, Maryland and includes art produced by Cindy Martin-Brennan. Combining her skills in oil painting, drawing, acrylics, colored pencils and photography she creates mixed media artwork that is built upon the foundation of her black and white photographs. She transforms her photographic images to art works that evoke color, emotion, and texture. She enjoys the tactile process that transforms the black and white images. A sunrise, sunset, stormy sky, sunny day, change in seasons can all be part of transforming or reimagining an image but without digital manipulation.
